Odds and Ends

Stark's Parker gets 'drawn' out
Richard Stark's (aka Donald Westlake), character Parker is set to be adapted into comic form. Darwyn Cook told fans at this year's Comic-Con that he will be adapting Stark's first four novels (The Hunter (aka Point Blank), The Man with the Getaway Face, The Outfit, and The Mourner) into graphic novels, the first of which is scheduled to be released late in 2009.

Potter's Fairytales
J.K. Rowling announced this past Thursday that she will publish a book of wizarding fairytales. Rowling originally produced only seven copies of "The Tales of Beedle the Bard." Each were bound in Moroccan leather and decorated with silver moonstones. Six were given to people involved with the Potter books while the seventh copy was bought at auction for roughly $4 million.

Saved By the Bell
Joining the ranks of celebrity tell-all books is Dustin "Screech" Diamond. You have to read this one for yourselves, 'cause I really have nothing to say, except yikes.

I agree. Yikes is right. I loved Saved by the Bell when I was a kid. Wasn't too crazy about The New Class or College Years though. The only thing that I didn't really like was Screech. He's kind of like Urkel. Just kept getting more ridiculous and annoying as the series kept going.

Whitney, gotta agree with you. Urkel and Screech just got outta control.

It's pretty sad (and pretty creepy) that Dustin Diamond did a sex tape. Those stupid reality shows were bad enough, showing the world what a loser he is. But a sex tape? Eeww.
It's probably this that stopped me from getting the Bell series on DVD.

As a fan of both graphic novels and Parker, I'm really looking forward to this. That and I love Cook's work on JLA.

Sam --- Yeah, that thought is pretty disturbing. I mean, yeesh! But I guess sex does sell, but really now.

Dave --- I'm always a little dubious about adaptations. Grant it, some times they really work, other times...not so much. I saw a graphic novel that translated a few of Edgar Allen Poe's pieces to comic form. Unfortunately, I don't think it carried all to well.

Regarding Dustin Diamond: Showgirls anyone?

Well, I guess I know what my daughter will be asking for for Christmas. I just wonder how quickly the Rowling book will sell out. I guess I should be off to Amazon to reserve myself a copy.

Anon --- Reserving on line or at the bookstore is probably the best way to go. Unless you REALLY want to be standing in line and run the risk of being trampled by rabid fans :)
